'''Matrizen''' sind unter LaTeX generell in equation-Umgebungen vorzufinden. Sie können auf verschiedene Weise erzeugt werden und können unterschiedliche Formen annehmen.

== Einfache Matrizen ==
Insbesondere die matrix-Umgebungen erleichtern den Einstieg. In LaTeX ähnelt die Formn von Matrizen denen von Tabellen, auch hier sind die Und-Zeichen bzw. Ampersands die Ausrichtungspunkte, welche die ''Spalten'' erzeugen. Ein Beispiel:

Entscheidend für die Nutzung von matrix-Environments ist die Einbindung des amsmath-Pakets, hier im Präämbel durch die Zeile

Die Matrix wird innerhalb einer equation erzeugt. Zur Veranschaulichung werden Tabulatoren eingesetzt, dies ist allerdings nicht nötig. Das <code>\\</code> ist für die Erzeugung einer neuen Zeile ("newline", Zeilenvorschub) zuständig.

Folgende Gestalt hat die oben erzeugte Matrix:

Nun ist man in der Regel verschiedene Klammern um die Matrix gewöhnt. Hier bietet LaTeX bestimmte Umgebungen an, die genaue diese Klammern mitausgeben, ohne, dass aufwändig mit z.B. <code>\left(</code> o.ä. gearbeitet werden muss.
